The Long Road to Krabi

Another update, thought I would get all up to date whilst the weather is really bad outside!

Left Koh Tao on Tuesday 11th and made our way to the pier to catch the catamaran to Krabi. Everything went fine although I had some really horrible man sitting next to me who kept playing with his false teeth! We had to stop in Koh Phanghan and change to another catamaran to take us to Suratthani. We arrived there around half past one and were collected by a nice looking coach with leather seats and modern air conditioning. Things we going very well, and me and Han were beginning to drop off to sleep as we had what we thought was a three hour drive ahead of us, until the coach pulled up on some highway and passengers for Krabi were all told to get off and wait in this dingey cafe! About forty minutes later and some old banger turned up and we all got on that. It soon became very clear that we had all been shipped onto a service bus and was stopping to pick locals up about every ten minutes. Six o'clock came and we still hadn't arrived
at our destination (bearing in mind we were meant to get the by half five!) A couple of people asked the driver and were told about one hour... great!!

One hour passed and we appeared to be in the middle of nowhere. It was really dark with the roads not lit up, the weather was bad and I was beginning to get a bit nervous. We had no accommodation booked - which would have been fine had we arrived at the time we were supposed to! We were all starving and the drivers mate came round with some funny looking sweets in all shapes: carrots, rabbits and watermelons! It looked like a gummy sort of sweet but I bit into it and it was disgusting! So I had to pretend I was enjoying it whilst the guy stood there watching me! I told him that Hannah loved hers and wanted another!! We stopped for a toilet break, by this I mean some bushes, and continued our journey to Krabi! We finally arrived at about eight o'clock, apparently poor time keeping is quite a well known thing over here!! Luckily there was a few people still at the bus station
offering accommodation so Han and I, and a couple of German girls we got chatting to on the coach, booked up a place called Baan To Guest House. This place is only 400 baht a night for a fan room with hot water!

Didn't really know what to expect from this place but we were greeted by a very enthusiastic lady called Annie. She showed us to our rooms and reassured us they were "very good for you". We both took a hot shower (something we had not had for the past week) and took a stroll down to the night market for some dinner. We ate chicken curry with rice and both had some water and paid 76 baht, so just over a pound for two main meals and two drinks...bargain!! Hannah got a crepe for 20 baht and we headed back to the hotel. Annie booked us a four island boat trip for the following day which was highly recommended by two Swedish boys staying there and then we went to bed.

Up early yesterday, half seven for breakfast, ready to be collected for our trip at eight! The sun was shining and not a cloud
in the sky...perfect weather for a boat trip. The transfer took us to Ao Nang beach and from there we got on a long tail boat. We picked up some people from Railey beach which we have heard a lot about and it looked pretty beautiful there. Our first stop was Top island, the sea was crystal clear and so warm, we stayed here for about an hour. You could walk on the sand to another island but we got about half way and then turned back as we couldn't be bothered! Sunbathed for a while then hopped back on the boat. Next stop was Chicken island (called this because it actually looks like a chicken) We didn't get off here, just stopped to take pictures. Just ten minutes from here we stopped in a place for snorkeling. Hannah got straight in... I was a bit unsure about jumping in to the sea but I put on my snorkel and jumped in. I was in the water for about thirty seconds...took one look down in to the sea and got really freaked out by all the fish! A shame really as the water was crystal clear and Hannah said she saw massive sea urchins! After this we moved on to Poda Island where we all got off for lunch. Chicken and rice again but it was very tasty. Had another dip in the sea then some more sunbathing...apparently it was about 35 degrees yesterday!! Cant remember the name of the final island we went to but it was equally as beautiful, white sand and clear water! There were some people rock climbing there - Krabi is a pretty popular place to rock climb. The day ended around four o'clock and we were dropped back to our hotel. A really good day for the money.

We had dinner at our hotel which was lovely. Annie is so sweet, anything you need from her and they will go out of their way to do it and always making sure you are happy and OK. Went for a few drinks with the Sweedish guys and a couple from Scotland. They all went on to another bar but after a long day the day before and being in the sun all day Han and I were pretty knackered so went home only to be greeted by an unwanted visitor in the form of a cockroach!! It was absolutely disgusting and we spent about ten minutes just saying "what are we going to do?" We finally manned up and tried to catch the cockroach first of all by throwing a bin at it. After thinking that we had caught the cockroach we had to lift the bucket up from the bathroom so it was level with the hallway to slid it out - this was done by wedging magazines under it as we were too scared to pick it up! We got the bin outside and the boys came back. Gloud (the Scottish guy) offered to kill it but lifted the bin to find it had gone!! He went back in our room and sure enough there it was in the bathroom all that time we spent in there and he was the all along, no doubt laughing at us! The 'roach was dealt with and we finally managed to get to bed!

Today has rained non-stop from about four o'clock. We got a taxi to Ao Nang and were on the beach for about half an hour before it started raining. We headed back to our hotel and got ready for dinner. After speaking to my mum and Tina on skype it was about six o'clock and we were starving. We went to a really nice place called "The Good Dream" and had some authentic Thai cuisine...burger and chips! I must say though its the nicest burger and chips I've had in ages. Its now ten to ten and its still raining. We are off to Phi Phi tomorrow and I think the weather gets better on Saturday. Missing you all xxx
